1250 KW Genset for Sale

In March of 2004 we took the generator off the market after the Government issued a purchase order for the engine from the unit.  After much negotiation over the terms of the purchase order / contract, we could not come to an agreement.  The generator is still in its original storage location. The unit was not disassembled. Only the fuel, oil, and coolant were removed to prepare the unit for shipping.

We have had the unit re-inspected by a qualified independent Marine Surveyor.  His letter report together with the original survey are below.

This unit was disconnected from hospital stand-by service and transferred to Everett, WA for storage in November of 2002.

Actual weight when unloaded in Everett was 96,650 lbs. less muffler. Shipping weight will be approximately 4,200 lbs less now that the coolant, fuel and lube oil have been removed.

While in storage in Everett the exterior was prepped and repainted with Devoe #229 Marine Coating.  The unit has also been pre-oiled and barred over every two weeks while stored in Everett. I had the unit surveyed immediately prior to coming out of service. The survey states that there is not a built in fuel tank but there is.

The unit has received many upgrades in recent years; such as rebuilt water pumps, governor, new Racor filter system, new IR air compressor, new air starters, and new critical grade muffler. Hours when taken out of service were a total of 996 from new. The oil and filters and cooling system was serviced every year. The unit averaged only 34 hours per year. The unit was test operated weekly and load tested monthly. The price of the unit is $225,000.00.

If you are interested in the unit please contact us.  We will make arrangements for you or your representative to inspect it.  It is located at Everett, WA.  We believe you will be impressed with the mint condition this unit is in.

This module is skid mounted all steel house with three large watertight access doors two on one side and one on the opposite side. On the engine end there is a large louvered opening that provides intake air to the unit.  The louvers are opened and closed automatically as required.  There is a large cowling covering the louvered opening and fitted with a large mesh screen.  On one side at the generator end there is a louvered exhaust air opening, which is also automatically controlled.  There is also a cowling over the louvered exhaust opening.  On one side there are two large watertight doors on the opposite side there is one.  This allows complete access to the engine for servicing and/or repairs.   There is an intake fan adjacent to the radiator and louvered intake opening.  This fan is driven through a shaft from of the front of the engine.  The exhaust spark arrester muffler is located on outside on top of the unit.  It is installed longitudinally and has a weighted automatic closing cover. The exhaust spark arrestor has been recently renewed. The unit interior overhead bulkheads and doors are covered with an acoustical metal mesh material apparently for insulation and sound absorption.  This interior covering is in excellent condition.  The deck is diamond plate and is all in place.  The lighting for the interior is excellent there are numerous light fixtures with protective cage type guards.

Condition:

The module apparently has an inorganic zinc or galvanic coating with a painted topcoat.  There is no damage to the exterior of the house.  The top coating is deteriorated in some areas; there is some minor corrosion around the air intake screen fastenings and mountings.  There are no other indications of corrosion. The access door seals are in good condition.  The door hardware is lightly service worn.

Main Power Unit:

Electro-Motive Division of General Motor, diesel engine model 12-645-E1 Serial No. 73J11062.  This is a “roots” blown two-cycle 12-cylinder diesel engine. The cylinder bore is 9 -1/16”.  The stroke is 10”.  Displacement per cylinder is 645 cubic inches. Compression ratio is 16 to 1. The operating speed range is 350 to 900 RPM.  The piston speed is 1500 feet per minute.  The bhp (horse power) is 1500 continuous @ 900 RPM.  The engine is air started and is fitted with tandem late style Ingersoll Rand air starters.  The engine is also fitted with all the necessary heaters for a hot start.  The engine is radiator cooled with heat controlled ventilation louvers and engine driven fan.   There are two air tanks for starting air and one air compressor that can be driven with an electric motor or a small gas engine.  This protects the unit from a power failure and /or loss of starting air.  There is an extensive heavy duty built in alarm system and a gauge board with all the engine function gauges.

Condition:

At the time of survey the unit had 976 total original operating hours.  The unit is in like new condition.  The unit has been test operated weekly for approximately twenty minutes and operated under full hospital load once every month for thirty minutes since its installation.  The unit was test operated at time of survey.   All pressures and temperatures were normal.  There was no exhaust smoke after start up.  The unit was completely serviced July 2002.  The unit has been routinely serviced and maintained by NC Power Systems Co. Inc.  The fuel is stored in a separate underground tank and is not included with the unit.

Generator:

The direct drive generator is manufactured by IDELL.  This generator is rated at 1250 KW & 1563KVA It is an AC 60 cycle generator with an output of 4,160 volts and 2,400 volts at 217 amperes. The serial number is 284807.

Condition:

The generator is in like new condition.

Location:

The unit is presently located and in service at the Veterans Administration Hospital.   The hospital is located south of Tacoma, WA West of the I-5 freeway.  Proceeding South turn right off I-5 at exit 124. The hospital is 3.2 miles from the freeway.  (This is directly across I-5 and West of Fort Lewis)
